DETROIT -- The Detroit Tigers have placed outfielder Matt Vierling on the injured list with a strained left oblique, the latest blow in his injury-riddled season. Shortstop Trey Sweeney was recalled from Triple-A Toledo to take Vierling’s roster spot.

Vierling, who missed most of the first two months of the season with a shoulder injury, was just starting to get back into a groove. He was riding a four-game hitting streak that included a pinch-hit, game-winning three-run home run on Friday. His performance didn't indicate any injury.

Matt Vierling's injury-filled season continues for the Tigers, as the team has placed him on the injured list. Trey Sweeney has been called up.
