Free agent Alex Bregman could be back at 3rd base for the Astros if 2nd baseman Jose Altuve is willing to make a key move

The Toronto Blue Jays, who have repeatedly struck out on top free agents two offseasons in a row, have been the most heavily rumored suitor of late. The San Francisco Giants, too, have long sought a big bopper and could use a first baseman.

Negotiations between the Houston Astros and third baseman Alex Bregman, once said to be stalled, have resumed, reports say.

That possibility seemed dead in December, when general manager Dana Brown said talks between both sides had “stalled” and the team pivoted to first baseman Christian Walker. A lack of clarity in Bregman’s market across the past month may have allowed the Astros back into the fray.
