The College of Idaho, where Elgin Baylor played a key role in the integration in college athletics, on Friday renamed its basketball arena for the late Basketball Hall of Fame legend at halftime of its 97-46 win against Evergreen State.

In 1954, we had the best basketball player in the world at the College of Idaho,” Doug Brigham, president of the College of Idaho, said on Saturday evening.

The College of Idaho will rename its basketball arena in honor of NBA legend and civil rights pioneer Elgin Baylor.

Elgin Baylor has quite the legacy – he’s been called the best basketball player in the world, he was the original Laker superstar and he was the first person to score 70 points in a game.
