San Francisco — A federal judge in San Francisco will consider evidence and hear arguments on whether the Trump administration violated federal law when it deployed National Guard soldiers and U.S. Marines to Los Angeles following protests over immigration raids this summer.

A pivotal trial examines the Trump administration's deployment of National Guard troops in Los Angeles for deportation support and protest control. California challenges the federal action as a breach of laws against military involvement in civil enforcement.

"Approximately 250 California National Guardsmen remain in Los Angeles to protect federal personnel and property," Parnell said. "We greatly appreciate the support of the more than 5,000 Guardsmen and Marines who mobilized to Los Angeles to defend Federal functions against the rampant lawlessness occurring in the city."
