Exclusive: Amazon looks to ditch homegrown software for Android in Fire tablet revamp, sources say
Amazon is plotting a big change to its Fire tablet lineup following years of escalating gripes from consumers and app developers over the company's homegrown operating system.
For app developers, Fire OS has created an added burden, requiring them to create separate, and often less-profitable, versions of their apps for Amazon's ecosystem. This has led to a much smaller app library compared to the Google Play Store.
