Legislation that would allocate $1 billion in state dollars for private school tuition and raise funding for public schools by $7.7 billion is headed to the Texas House floor.

The Texas House Public Education Committee advanced bills for school vouchers and school funding Thursday, teeing up the high profile bills.

The Texas House Committee on Public Education also proposes changes to its sweeping school finance proposal. House Bill 2 would increase the amount of money the state gives schools per student by $395, an increase of $220 from the original bill.
