With less than two days separating the New York Islanders from the NHL Trade Deadline, TSN’s Pierre LeBrun casted doubt on whether the team will re-sign Brock Nelson.

The NHL trade deadline is fast approaching, and the deals should pick up over the next few days. One of the biggest players on the market is veteran center Brock Nelson, who could be moved with the New York Islanders fading out of the playoff race.

Brock Nelson had a goal and an assist and the New York Islanders took down the NHL-leading Winnipeg Jets 3-2 on Tuesday night. Kyle Palmieri and Ryan Pulock also scored, and Ilya Sorokin finished with 27 saves for New York in its final game before the NHL trade deadline and a three-game west-coast road trip.

One analyst floated the possibility of the Avalanche using Casey Mittelstadt as a trade chip to land Brock Nelson from the Islanders.

The Islanders are trending towards trading Brock Nelson before Friday's NHL trade deadline but there are no guarantees.
