PSA: Apple’s latest updates turn on Apple Intelligence even if you had switched it off
According to Johnson’s blog, he installed the macOS 15.3.1 update on a MacBook Pro with Apple Intelligence off. When the MacBook Pro restarted, Setup Assistant appeared with a screen for Apple Intelligence.
iPhone Update Quietly Turns On Apple Intelligence, Angers Users
On Monday, Apple rolled out the new macOS Sequoia 15.3.1 and iOS 18.3.1 updates — and it seems the update has inadvertently turned on Apple Intelligence for a slew of users as spotted by MacRumours and The Verge. Software developer Jeff Johnson has since complied some user complaint reports.
Bug in macOS and iOS updates re-enables Apple Intelligence for some who’d opted out
On Mac, go to  > System Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri and flip the Apple Intelligence toggle to off. On iPhone, open the Settings app then Apple Intelligence & Siri and flip the Apple Intelligence toggle to off. We’d expect the issue to be resolved in the next updates.
Apple Intelligence might turn itself back on with the latest software updates
If you turned Apple Intelligence off in iOS or macOS, you might have to do that again after the most recent update.
