Bushra Khan, wife of former PM Imran Khan, has been sentenced to seven years in prison alongside her husband for land corruption

A defense lawyer says a Pakistani court has sentenced the country’s already-imprisoned former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife to 14 and seven years in jail after finding them guilty of corruption.

Imran Khan has been indicted on charges that he and his wife were gifted land by a real estate developer during his premiership from 2018 to 2022 in exchange for illegal favours.

Imran Khan will serve 14 years imprisonment while Bushra Bibi was jailed for seven years. Besides jail ter, Imran was fined Rs1 million and Bushra Bibi half a million rupees. In case of failure to pay fine, Imran will have to undergo six months imprisonment. The court also ordered to confiscate the land of Al-Qadir University.

Former Pakistan Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, were convicted in a corruption case on Friday. Khan was sentenced to 14 years imprisonment in the £190 million Al-Qadir Trust land corruption case. Meanwhile, the court awarded Bushra Bibi a seven-year jail term.

Both were arrested for allegations of misusing the Pakistani Rs 50 billion, returned to Pakistan by the UK's National Crime Agency as part of a settlement with a property tycoon.

PTI Central Information Secretary Sheikh Waqqas Akram said that the party will file an appeal in the high court at the earliest, in order to quash the ruling and correct the egregious miscarriage of justice.
