At least seven lawmakers are needed for Mayor Muriel E. Bowser’s RFK stadium deal with the team to proceed. Before the Washington Commanders can build a $3.7 billion stadium development at the decaying RFK Stadium site, the deal has to go through the D.C. Council.

The Washington Commanders are still on schedule to play at the RFK Stadium site starting in 2030. But that move-in date is starting to be in jeopardy. A tiff between the the Washington, D.C. city council and mayor Muriel Bowser’s office has put a self-appointed July 15 deadline in jeopardy,

While several councilmembers have publicly supported the Commanders' building a new stadium at the RFK Stadium site because of what it would mean to the District, Mendelson has always expressed opposition. Essentially, the Commanders want the DC Council to vote on the RFK deal on July 15, whereas Mendelson clearly doesn't.
