Under pristinely blue skies, area residents gathered in Lincolnshire’s Spring Lake Park on Monday morning to join a National pause to honor the price of freedom.

The arrests by federal authorities took place on Saturday in Boston, Denver, Houston, Newark, New York City, Salt Lake City, and San Francisco.

Memorial Day is often associated with barbecues, parades, & the unofficial start date of summer, but it’s origin is rooted in an important story that's largely invisible.

On a dreary Memorial Day that saw both the annual parade and wreath-laying ceremony canceled due to weather, a crowed still gathered at the Ardis T. Williams Sr. Auditorium for the 46th annual Memorial Day service in Vicksburg Monday morning.

The ceremony marked the 157th Memorial Day celebrated in the United States, a holiday dedicated to those who died in service to the country.

In a speech at Arlington National Cemetery, President Trump highlighted the sacrifices of soldiers and their families but also his own achievements.

Those in the audience were reminded that they live in the “best country, state and city in the world” because of the soldiers who put their lives at stake.

Memorial Day is a day to honor and remember those who have died while serving in the United States military. It’s observed on the last Monday of May and is a time for reflection and remembrance. It began as a way to decorate the graves of Civil War soldiers.

Flood watches have been issued over swaths of the southern United States. Travel delays were expected on highways and at airports.
