An attack on an open market in the Sudanese city of Omdurman by a paramilitary group fighting against the country’s military killed some 54 people and wounded many more, health authorities said Saturday.

At least 56 people have been killed in Sudan after artillery shelling and air attacks on a vegetable market in Omdurman, Sudan. The Health Ministry said at least 158 people were also wounded in Saturday’s attack that was blamed on the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

The ministry said in a statement that health institutions reported 54 deaths and 158 injuries in the deadly attack on Sabreen Market in the Karari locality, Xinhua news agency reported.
