LOS ANGELES — The Cincinnati Reds’ playoff run came to an end Wednesday night after losing, 8-4, to the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Dodgers beat the Reds in both games of the NL Wildcard at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. Sal Stewart drove in three of four runs for the Reds.
For a fleeting moment in the top of the first inning Wednesday night, it felt like the Los Angeles Dodgers might be walking into one of those cursed October nights. Teoscar Hernández had settled under a can-of-corn fly ball that should have ended the inning without damage.
The Reds capitalized on Teoscar Hernández’s first-inning error to grab an early lead against Yamamoto on rookie Sal Stewart’s two-run single. Yamamoto struck out Elly De La Cruz to end the inning, starting a streak of 13 consecutive batters retired by the Dodgers’ ace.
On Wednesday at Dodger Stadium, the Los Angeles Dodgers, who currently have a 1-0 advantage, continue their three-game postseason series against the Cincinnati Reds. First pitch is scheduled for 9:08 p.m. ET. Date: Wednesday, Oct. 1
After their 8-4 elimination loss in Game 2 on Oct. 1, the Reds dropped to 2-15 in postseason games since they last won a playoff series in 1995 – coincidentally in a sweep of the Dodgers.
The Los Angeles Dodgers face Cincinnati Reds in NL Wild Card Game 1 as Blake Snell duels Hunter Greene on the mound.
The Philadelphia Phillies will know their Game 1 start time based on who wins the Boston Red Sox-New York Yankees series.
