Hurricane Imelda Swirls Away From Bermuda

Forecasters are monitoring Hurricane Imelda, now a Category 2 hurricane, as it moves to Bermuda, according to the National Hurricane Center. According to a 7 p.m. ET advisory on Wednesday, Oct. 1 from the NHC, the hurricane is located about 100 miles west-southwest of Bermuda.

The National Hurricane Center's 8 a.m. Thursday update reported that Category 1 Hurricane Imelda is in the Atlantic Ocean, 230 miles east of Bermuda. With maximum sustained winds of 80 mph, the hurricane is moving east-northeast at 30 mph. Imelda is forecast to become an extratropical storm.
Hurricane Imelda is now closing in on Bermuda, just one day after Hurricane Humberto brushed the islands on Tuesday. And as of 11 a.m., the National Hurricane Center has issued its final advisory on Humberto, which has weakened and is no longer classified as a hurricane.
Swells generated by Imelda and nearby Hurricane Humberto have been affecting the Bahamas, and are spreading to much of the East Coast.
Imelda was upgraded from a tropical storm to a hurricane on Tuesday and threatened to bring hurricane conditions to Bermuda by Wednesday evening.
