The most powerful Mustang Mach-E you can buy today is the GT model. It has a dual-motor powertrain and standard all-wheel drive, a setup that’s rated at a stout 480 horsepower and up to 700 pound-feet of torque with the optional performance upgrade.

Ford yesterday unveiled a Mach-E prototype designed for the American NASCAR (National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing) racing series.

In over 120 years, Ford has become a sales leader in a variety of segments, with popular nameplates like the Ford F-150, Transit, and Mustang.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E stock car has three motors and, like the unbranded NASCAR demonstrator revealed last year, uses the NASCAR Next Gen chassis.

While Ford has yet to release details of the Mach-E NASCAR, it will likely share similar characteristics of the NASCAR EV that was demonstrated in Chicago. The EV accelerated twice as fast as gas-powered NASCARs but suffered in corners due to its extra battery weight.

Hybrids still haven't come to NASCAR and an electric race car for the series might seem even farther off, but Ford is still thinking about it.

Ford on Thursday showed what its Mustang Mach-E electric SUV might look like as a NASCAR race car.
