After spending eight seasons with the Minnesota Twins, the Cubs have announced that they signed left-handed reliever Caleb Thielbar to a one-year deal.

Caleb Thielbar, a native of Randolph, Minn., was the first player to appear for both the St. Paul Saints and the Twins. Now, he’s headed to the Windy City.

The Chicago Cubs have agreed to a one-year contract with left-hander Caleb Thielbar. The team announced the deal on Tuesday. Thielbar, 37, spent his first eight seasons with the Minnesota Twins. He went 2-4 with a 5.32 ERA and three saves in 59 games this year.

Thielbar, who turns 38 in January, has actually added velocity over the last five years, his fastball clocking in at an average of 93.2 mph last season, compared to 89.8 in 2020. But he owned a 5.32 ERA last season, thanks to shaky early results before he righted the ship down the stretch.
