Rescuers used backhoes and sniffer dogs to look for survivors in collapsed houses and other damaged buildings in the central Philippines after an earthquake killed at least 72 people and injured more than 200 others.

Tuesday’s quake is the deadliest the country has experienced since October 2013, when more than 200 people died in the Philippines’ central region after a 7.2-magnitude quake struck the neighboring island of Bohol.

A magnitude 5.1 earthquake jolted Bogo City, Cebu early Friday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said. The tectonic quake struck 18 km. northeast of Bogo City at 5:39 a.
